My Life

When I was a teenager I had a dream of becoming a rock star, then I really did it! It took a few years but by the time I was 25 I had a record deal and was working with producers who were writing the most popular songs in America at the time. I expected a feeling of great freedom when our band, Bounce The Ocean, released our cd internationally. I expected to be thrilled when we were being played on the radio across the country. I wasn't.

I actually felt trapped. I quit the music business and found work helping other people find jobs. It was quite a shift. I thought that if I dedicated myself to serving people instead of getting famous maybe I would be happy. After a couple of years I authored a career guide and put it online. Al Gore listed it in his National Review as one of 12 useful career sites along with monster.com and careerbuilder. Great, but I was still searching for that feeling of just being ok.

Since then I married an incredible woman, had two beautiful kids, created a successful consulting business, and bought my dream home. Good on the outside again, but on the inside things were still not so great. I was prone to depression, my sinuses hurt constantly and I was taking antibiotics every other month. My diet was severely restricted because of food sensitivities. I was stressed out.

One day I was inspired to start meditating. Within a week of daily meditation my stress decreased and an overall feeling of well-being started appearing. In addition, a fascinating inner landscape came into view. It felt like my soul was being born. I continued to meditate A LOT. Having experienced the benefits of meditation, the Eastern/Holistic realm that was once so intimidating now held incredible promise. I entered it with great fervor.

For five years I consumed volumes of spiritual books and attended scores of workshops and retreats. I attended energy healing school for a year, learned Reiki, and studied the mind/body paradigm. I became a champion of the holistic approach while receiving EMDR, Acupuncture, Cranio-Sacral work, Naturopathic and Chiropractic care. Drawing on my earlier experience helping people with career choices I joined a group of holistic practitioners as a life coach and started seeing clients.

Thanks to all this combined work and, in particular, to a special kind of meditation retreat called an Enlightenment Intensive I began to break through the fears that were keeping me so restricted and physically unhealthy. I started to experience my true nature as something eternal, peaceful, and indestructable. Over time, these experiences increasingly infiltrated my every day life.

As my true self emerged I actively changed many of the conditions of my old life. Most remarkably, my ex-wife and I dissolved our marriage in a sacred ceremony in which we pledged to love, honor, and support each other and our children...and we really have. A new love appeared in a way that I can only describe as miraculous and continues to be so. We support each other in ways I couldn't have previously imagined.

The greatest thing I learned from my meditation practice is that by simply inquiring into the truth, and staying with the inquiry past my fears, I could find incredible peace, love and freedom on the other side. Being able to experience this peace first-hand and witness it repeatedly in others has completely changed my life and continually inspires my coaching practice. I now have a center, an actual me, to come from instead of a belief or an idea about what that center should be. My relationships support living from that center. It is completely worth the trade-in for the rock star career. When I am not coming from or opening to that center everything, no matter how appealing on the outside, is a trap.

My work as a coach is about helping people get to, and live from their center, their heart, in the way that naturally is best for them. The great miracle of coaching is that I don't have to be an expert on everybody because they are. I just facilitate the awakening of truth in my clients by listening, asking questions, offering my intuition, and supporting them in finding their own way. It's fantastic work and often produces tremendous, life-changing results for my clients. It's worth the time it took to get here.
